Podcast: Drinking With...Elf (2003)

McCash relives 2003's 'Elf' alongside Brandon and Stoney on this festive episode of 'Drinking With...'

‘Tis the season! I don’t know about you guys, but nothing gets me in the holiday spirit like a good film. I mean, I guess that’s true of any season for me…The Hateful Eight in winter, Midnight In Paris in summer, Dead Poets Society in autumn…but especially during the holidays, when people make films actually about the season in question, they just hit right.

Elf is obviously not the most critically acclaimed Christmas film, but it’s in my rotation nonetheless. I look at it as something that is, by and large, feel-good holiday fluff. It’s a commercial film littered with quotable one-liners and holiday vibes. Without executing on those aspects of the film, I probably wouldn’t have enjoyed it much at all. But, with them, Elf is a harmless, easy addition to the Christmas rotation. At the very least, it’s a movie that you can have on to spread a little holiday cheer throughout your household.

If you haven’t already tuned in for an episode of ‘Drinking With…’, then there’s no better time to introduce yourself. On this show, we take a walk to the bar to discuss films turning 21 years of age and their impact on pop culture. McCash does a fantastic job of presenting interesting factoids about the film, and along with Brandon and myself, we discuss the themes present in each movie we discuss, what we liked, what we didn’t like, etc.. Elf was no exception. So, pour up a cocktail, cozy up by the fire, light the Christmas tree, and enjoy the first of three (THREE!) episodes of ‘Drinking With…’ for the month of December!
