Streaming services are at the forefront of the content-ification of the movie industry. People have a million options when they sit down in front of their televisions on a Friday night. We’ve seen it impact the theatre experience, which we’ve talked about ad nauseam over the last five years since covid. Because of such a saturation of options, it’s opened the door for many a good film to fall through the cracks, unseen by audiences, and unjustly forgotten by critics and their year-end lists.
A few weeks ago, I introduced my wife to The Outfit. I recently saw News of the World after scrolling through streaming apps trying to find something I hadn’t seen before. I thought to myself, “man - these were really good films…how come no one seemed to really talk about ‘em?” It was that thought that sparked a text I sent to Brandon, asking him which films he thought of in similar fashion. I took the suggestions we both presented, compiled ‘em, and that’s how this list was born. Here are eight movies we think you might’ve missed that you should really check out.
